24 HOUR GETAWAY

Locked down in the shop lately finishing Greg’s order.  Had a chance to get away for a quick road trip while Pupo was doing the polishes.  Chris Vail, Justin “the Jeweler”, and I loaded the van with a Device, a board named Karl, a couple softies and went south.

‘Greg’ asked for:  a 10′ pig with a big redwood stringer with an abstract and images of the sun.

So I did some resin inspired by the Abstract Classicists of the west coast, 50’s style.  Hope he’s ok with that.

Next it gets a fine sand, polish, a few pictures, boxing, then it’s gone via airmail with crossed fingers.

FLEX REPORT FROM BAJA

GC2239 Shelby FLEX V 9′7″ 22.75″ 3″ SAGE

Shelby and Keren own a handful of this model with the exact same dims.  The latest one is a flex version (tow weight foam, 6oz flat weave volan, and iso resin).

hi gene,  keren made it back safe and sound. we have both been able to ride the new v flex for the last two days and we both agree that it is the most lively and focused surfboard we have ever ridden.  after riding the flex we will probably want another one. this board is really amazing. hope your doing well,  Shelby

Hey Gene, here are some images of the Flex-V in action.  It is an amazing board and we fight over it all the time.   We want another Flex-V, just like this one. There is something so alive about it, you can do so much more from the nose and it has this rhythm about it that moves with ones own.  I don’t know how to explain it all I know is I really want one too. - Keren

GARAGE RATS 1977

Found photo of my friend Rick and I from ‘77.  Rick was a technical adviser, glasser, and ding repairer during the filming of Big Wednesday.  Between the location shoots he would bring the movie boards home to work on.

Boards shown include a couple of our personal hulls,  assorted movie prop boards, and the beautiful balsa gun I’m leaning on that was shaped by R. Dick.

CUSTOMS FOR GREG’S

A special build for Greg because he took good care of us when we were in Japan in 2010.  The boards are wayyy overdue but they will be over the top.  http://gregsurfcompany.jp/

These 2 pigs with the 1 1/2 chambered Redwood stringers are tow foam being glassed with flatweave volan and isophalic resin.  They’ll have a good strength to weight ratio and very dent resistant.  One will be clear and the other gets an abstract.
