Tribute to Mike Marshall

A sad day for the surfing community. Legendary Surfboard Builder/Historian/Storyteller and all around great guy Mike Marshall passed away on Saturday in Costa Mesa. We send our best to his wife Sharon, his family, and his circle of friends.
Mike loved to pass on stories of surfings hay day and his enthusiasm for both our sport and the craft was infectious. Thanks for sharing with us Mike.

When I think of Mike Marshall I think of two words, The Glide. I can’t help but smile thinking of how sublime it is to paddle one of his boards and get on out to the line up. This is an ahhhhh feeling of bliss and gratitude, you are in the moment, you are in The Glide. All of his boards move like there is magic in that foam and fiberglass underneath you. You can spot them, signature unseen, by how they move through the water. They have, The Glide. He was truly an artist, and the rarest of craftsmen, a real teacher. I am grateful to have known him. I cannot thank both Sharon and Mike enough for all they have done to save our surfing history, through their work with The Surfing Heritage Museum, Sharon’s photography, all of Mike’s stories, and of course those surfboards. Aloha Mike Marshall, I will miss you, a lot.
